Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapies Q & A

What are PRP therapies?

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapies promote the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles, and joints. The process uses the patient’s own blood and a device to inject the blood into treatment areas, releasing growth factors that increase the proliferation of cells.

Vermont Med Spa offers 3 levels of treatment:

  • Level 1: Eclipse MicroPen™ using hyaluronic acid serum
  • Level 2: Eclipse MicroPen using growth factor
  • Level 3: "Vampire Facelift" - MicroPen using PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)

All of these treatments diminish fine lines and wrinkles, brown spots, and dark under eye circles, and even shrink pore size and smooth out skin tone. Dr. El Asmar recommends a minimum of 3 treatments, and offers discount packages.

How does the Vampire Facelift work?

First, Dr. El Asmar draws blood with a small needle and separates the red blood cells from the platelet rich plasma (PRP). He then takes that plasma and applies it topically to the patient’s face. The skin is aerated by the Eclipse MicroPen, which produces microscopic holes that allows the PRP to enter the skin.

What should I expect during treatment?

Treatments usually take around 30 minutes or less, with very little downtime afterward. Side effects are rare, but patients report noticing slight puffiness in their face that dissipates after a couple of days. There are no risks involved during the Vampire Facelift.

How does regenerative hair growth work?

PRP therapy for hair restoration uses a combination of ACell, PRP, and nutrients that’s injected into the scalp to stimulate grow hair. The non-surgical treatment is safe and effective, usually lasting for no more than 90 minutes. It’s common to experience mild swelling for 1-2 days after the injection, and Dr. El Asmar recommends avoiding vigorous activities. Any pain shouldn't last longer than 48 hours.
